Marine Plywood

Marine Plywood is a special type of plywood designed specifically for high humidity and high salinity environments, mainly used in shipbuilding, docks, and other structures that require long-term exposure to humid environments. It has excellent waterproofing, corrosion resistance, and durability, and is usually made of high-quality wood and waterproof glue.

characteristic

1. Waterproof adhesive (WBP adhesive)

Use waterproof, heat-resistant, and weather resistant adhesives (such as phenolic resin or melamine resin) to ensure that they do not delaminate or peel under humid or soaking conditions.

2. High quality wood

High density hardwood (such as teak, okumei, birch, etc.) is usually used as the surface layer and core board to reduce defects and improve structural stability.

3. Core free board gap

The core board is usually a single board or vertically assembled, and end splicing is not allowed to reduce the risk of moisture infiltration.

4. Corrosion resistance and mold prevention

Suitable for high salinity marine environments, able to resist fungal and microbial erosion.

5. High mechanical strength

Cross textured structure (adjacent layers of wood grain arranged vertically) enhances bending and impact resistance, suitable for high load scenarios such as ship decks and docks.

6. Widely applicable

In addition to ships, it can also be used in high humidity environments such as outdoor buildings, bathrooms, kitchens, etc.

Marine Plywood vs Regular Plywood
characteristic Marine Plywood Regular plywood
Adhesive type Waterproof and Boiling resistant (WBP) Ordinary waterproof adhesive (may not be resistant to boiling)
Timber quality Defect free, high-density hardwood Allow for minor defects, possibly using cork
Core board splicing Only vertical splicing, without any reason splicing Allow vertical and end splicing
Water resistance Long term soaking remains stable Short term waterproofing, prone to delamination in the long term

Usage

Ship construction (deck, bulkhead, hull structure)

Dock and floating bridge (resistant to seawater erosion)

Outdoor furniture (such as garden tables and chairs, terrace flooring)

High end interior decoration (humid environments such as bathrooms and kitchens)
